“Ivó Kovács is a media artist who graduated as a painter, a foundation that continues to inform his investigation into digital space and the mechanisms of visual cognition. His practice spans over fifteen years, primarily focusing on the intersection of architectural projection-mapping and theatrical scenography. Central to his work is the inquiry into the nature of immersion and visual storytelling, treating the projected environment as a medium for both structural and psychological intervention. Kovács has consistently engaged with large-scale architectural surfaces, earning international recognition for projects that synthesize complex narratives with the built environment. Since the 2012 Mapping Festival, his repertoire has included diverse formats such as stereoscopic 3D and hemispherical projections—experiments that serve as a study of depth and spatial awareness. His methodology alternates between abstraction and narrative, grounded in an inquiry into how digital light can deconstruct and redefine physical boundaries. While his workflow integrates advanced digital systems and interactive sensors, his approach remains rooted in the tradition of fine arts, prioritizing artistic inquiry over technical engineering. By bridging classical visual principles with contemporary digital media, he seeks to understand the evolving relationship between the observer and the immersive image. His current focus centers on refining the aesthetic possibilities of high-fidelity digital environments, aiming to further explore the limits of experience within virtual and physical spaces.”
